Article Icon 1Fiber Vandals Cut SoCal Networks

An AT&T fiber line in Reseda was vandalized Sunday, disrupting home phone and internet service in the second such attack on a Southern California carrier in a week.

AT&T said service has since been restored, though the company did not say how many customers were affected. It is offering up to $20,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction involving copper cable theft.

The incident followed another a week earlier, when vandals cut multiple Verizon fiber lines, knocking out mobile and internet service for thousands across the region for most of Sunday.

Verizon restored service that evening but did not say where the cables were cut. The company later offered its own $25,000 reward, calling the cuts “dangerous disruptions that cut off vital lifelines” for first responders.

Verizon said California recorded 6,297 vandalism incidents in 2025, with Los Angeles alone accounting for 1,131.

Article Icon 1House Ethics Panel Probes Gomez

The House Ethics Committee announced Monday it is investigating Rep. Jimmy Gomez, D, Los Angeles, over allegations of sexual misconduct.

The panel said it is reviewing whether Gomez had inappropriate sexual contact with a House staffer, while noting that opening the review does not itself mean a violation occurred.

The investigation followed a New York Post report alleging Gomez was seen kissing a younger aide who worked for a different member of Congress in 2023. The Ethics Committee later learned of other allegations of sexual misconduct.

Gomez acknowledged making “personal mistakes” outside his marriage but said his conduct was consensual and broke no laws or House rules, and pledged to cooperate with the inquiry.

The case adds to multiple congressional misconduct allegations and ethics inquiries this year involving lawmakers in both parties.

Article Icon 1Teen Lifeguard Honored at White House

Ryder Williams, the 16-year-old Santa Cruz lifeguard whose rescue of a boy went viral last month, was honored by President Trump at the White House on Monday.

Williams rushed into the water at Seabright State Beach to reach a 10-year-old swept about 15 yards offshore, part of a weekend that brought at least 34 rescues in Santa Cruz County.

Video of the rescue drew millions of views, including those of the president, who called Williams “heroic” and awarded him a high civilian honor.

A second State Parks lifeguard, Aaron Bohnen, helped bring the boy ashore. “This is my job and I love what I do,” Williams said.
