Article Icon 1GOP Passes on Governor Endorsement

California Republican delegates failed to endorse a candidate for governor at their San Diego convention Sunday, splitting their vote despite President Trump’s backing of Steve Hilton.

Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco led the delegate vote with 49%. Hilton, a former Fox News host, drew 44%. Neither cleared the 60% threshold required for the party’s endorsement.

Hilton said he remained “very confident” he would make the top two in the primary. Bianco downplayed the result, saying “endorsements are silly” and that they don’t matter to his campaign.

No Republican has won a statewide California race since 2006. The June 2 top-two primary will determine who advances to November.

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 99 struck a tentative deal at about 2 a.m., just hours before 30,000 cafeteria workers, bus drivers, custodians, and teaching aides were set to walk off the job.

Schools will remain open. The agreement includes a 24% wage increase, expanded work hours that will qualify thousands more workers for health benefits, and the rescission of hundreds of IT layoffs.

The United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) and the Associated Administrators of Los Angeles (AALA) reached their own tentative deals over the weekend, but a solidarity pact meant all three unions would have struck together. All agreements must still be ratified by union members and the LAUSD board.

Commercial salmon fishing will reopen along the California coast for the first time since 2022 after the Pacific Fishery Management Council voted Sunday to lift the closure.

Three years of canceled commercial seasons took a toll on the state’s fishing industry. Recreational fishing along parts of the coast south of San Francisco has already resumed. Commercial boats head out in May.

“It is great news for everyone—for the fishermen, for seafood lovers and the environment,” California Natural Resources Secretary Wade Crowfoot said.

Wildlife officials credit the rebound primarily to recent wet winters, along with habitat restoration efforts, including the removal of four dams on the Klamath River completed in 2024.

Unknown Number Calling? It’s Not Random

The BBC caught scam call center workers on hidden cameras as they laughed at the people they were tricking. One worker bragged about making $250k from victims. The disturbing truth? Scammers don’t pick phone numbers at random. They buy your data from brokers.

Once your data is out there, it’s not just calls. It’s phishing, impersonation, and identity theft. That’s why we recommend Incogni: They delete your info from the web, monitor and follow up automatically, and continue to erase data as new risks appear.
