Milk, Cattle Drive Tulare Agriculture Past $9.1B

Tulare County’s agricultural production reached $9.1 billion in 2025, up nearly 10% from $8.3 billion the previous year.

Milk remained the county’s most valuable commodity at $2.3 billion, followed by cattle and calves at $1.566 billion. Oranges placed third at $835 million, followed by grapes, tangerines, pistachios, almonds, and lemons, according to the county report.

Fruit and nut crops remained the largest category at nearly $4.4 billion, while livestock and poultry climbed about 33% to $1.6 billion. The figures represent gross production before farmers’ expenses and are not adjusted for inflation.

Wind-Fueled Fires Sweep Southern California

Hot, dry Santa Ana winds fanned multiple brush fires across Southern California, prompting evacuations in Malibu and at Camp Pendleton.

Tens of thousands lost power through preventive utility shutoffs. Four Malibu campuses closed Friday, while San Diego County’s Mountain Empire Unified canceled classes because the winds made bus travel hazardous.

Friday morning updates put Camp Pendleton’s Henderson Fire at 1,404 acres and 0% containment and Malibu’s Bryson Fire at 147 acres and 17% containment. The Las Flores evacuation order and brief I-5 closure were lifted Thursday evening. About 100 structures remained threatened near Malibu, but none had been lost.

AlertWildfire founder Graham Kent urged homeowners in fire-prone areas to prepare, warning that strong winds, low humidity, and flying embers can quickly turn a small fire into a major emergency.

Officials urged residents to remain vigilant and continue checking evacuation notices and official fire updates as conditions change.

Valkyries Host Dream in Finals Opener

San Francisco’s Golden State Valkyries host the Atlanta Dream today in Game 1 of the best-of-seven WNBA Finals, guaranteeing the league a first-time champion.

Golden State became the first team in league history to reach the Finals in its second season after sweeping the defending champion Las Vegas Aces, while Atlanta extended a franchise-best, 10-game winning streak after sweeping the New York Liberty.

The series pits the postseason’s top two defenses, led by Atlanta’s Angel Reese, the Defensive Player of the Year, and Golden State’s Gabby Williams, the runner-up.

Golden State won all three regular-season meetings against Atlanta and is unbeaten this postseason at the Chase Center, known as “Ballhalla.”
