Los Angeles Unified Superintendent Alberto Carvalho resigned Sunday as an FBI investigation that prompted raids on his home and district offices remains ongoing.

Federal agents searched Carvalho’s San Pedro home, LAUSD headquarters, and a residence near Miami in late February. The school board placed him on paid administrative leave two days later.

The investigation’s focus has not been publicly disclosed. Questions have surrounded the district’s failed contract with AllHere, the now-defunct company behind the AI chatbot Ed. Reports have also pointed to allegations tied to Carvalho’s tenure leading Miami-Dade schools. Carvalho has not been charged in connection with the AllHere case, and the company’s founder, Joanna Smith-Griffin, was later charged with securities fraud, wire fraud, and identity theft.

Carvalho has not been charged with a crime and denies wrongdoing. His attorneys say prosecutors have presented no evidence that he violated federal law. Andrés Chait will remain acting superintendent while the board searches for a permanent successor.

Article Icon 1California Turns to Ocean Desalination

San Jose Water is studying whether desalination could become a future drinking water source, the latest California utility to look offshore as the state’s traditional supplies shrink.

The push is fueled by new technology. A company called OceanWell, led by former water manager Tim Quinn, just released data from an ongoing Southern California study of underwater pods that use deep-ocean pressure to filter seawater and pipe fresh water ashore.

In San Diego, the decade-old Carlsbad plant has surplus capacity, and agencies in California, Arizona, and Nevada signed a memorandum of understanding this month to explore exchanges involving desalinated water and Colorado River supplies.

Desalination remains controversial, and environmental groups warn about salty brine and harm to marine life. Supporters counter that a hotter, drier West leaves the state little choice but to look offshore.

Article Icon 1Heat Advisory Issued for L.A. County

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for portions of Los Angeles County, where temperatures will climb into the 90s from today through Thursday.

Downtown Los Angeles and the metro area could near 90 degrees, while the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys reach the mid-90s, and desert areas like the Antelope Valley may top 100. Coastal areas will stay cooler, in the 70s and low 80s.

Forecasters warn of a higher risk of heat illness, especially for the young, the elderly and those without air conditioning, and urge residents to hydrate and check on neighbors. The hot, dry conditions are also raising fire weather concerns across parts of the region.

Under California’s heat illness prevention rules, employers must provide outdoor workers with water, shade, and rest breaks during high temperatures, with additional procedures required when temperatures reach 95 degrees or higher. The ridge of high pressure is expected to weaken later in the week, bringing cooler temperatures into the weekend.

These California Founders Unlocked 22X Growth

In 2018, Brandon and Jennifer Robinson licensed a single mini-golf pub. They had a hunch people wanted more than just a bar. They wanted an experience.

They were more than right.

Tipsy Putt is now on a mission to dominate the mini golf slice of the Eatertainment space. Their mini golf, craft cocktails, and local eats have already drawn 5,000+ active members. And out of those three revenue streams, the highest-margin one (mini golf) requires no inventory whatsoever.

The result?

  • Four profitable California locations

  • 22x revenue growth from 2020-24

  • 75% more potential revenue per square foot

This is a proven, operating brand with a loyal fanbase and momentum that keeps compounding.

Now the Robinsons are opening their San Francisco flagship, and retail investors can own shares in the location before the 2027 grand opening.

Why ‘Eatertainment’ Brands Are Worth Billions

Before a restaurant sells any food, they need to buy it. That costs up to 35% on every dollar.

But Tipsy Putt’s business model cuts that number to less than 20%.

It’s called “Eatertainment,” the same model that turned TopGolf and Bowlero into billion-dollar companies.

Tipsy Putt already opened multiple locations with 5,188 active members and 22x revenue growth. The company has been featured on the Dan Patrick Show, and celebrity guests keep walking through the doors.

Now, they’re bringing this model to San Francisco, America’s #3 foodie city. It’s going to address a Bay Area market of 7 million people. You can invest in Tipsy Putt’s SF flagship location before it opens.
