Question: In 1977, Los Angeles Dodgers star Dusty Baker hit his 30th home run, and teammate Glenn Burke thrust a palm overhead that Baker reached up and slapped. That exchange is widely credited as the first-ever what?

Answer: The high five. On October 2, 1977, Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Dusty Baker hit his 30th home run of the season, making the Dodgers the first team in Major League Baseball with four players to hit 30 home runs in a single season. As Baker crossed the plate, teammate Glenn Burke thrust his palm overhead and Baker slapped it, in what is generally credited as the first high five.
