Extreme Heat Warnings Span Southern California
A prolonged heat wave settled over Southern California Friday, bringing extreme heat warnings for coastal and inland communities through 8 p.m. Thursday.
The National Weather Service forecast temperatures approaching 90 degrees at the coast and 105 in Los Angeles and Ventura County valleys. Inland Orange County could reach 102, while the Inland Empire and San Diego County valleys may hit 105. Overnight lows will remain in the 70s across many areas.
Prolonged heat, dry conditions, and offshore flow have increased fire danger, particularly in valleys and mountains. Forecasters warned that any fires could grow quickly.
Wind advisories will also take effect Saturday for inland Orange County, the Inland Empire, San Diego County valleys, and nearby mountains, where easterly gusts could reach 40 to 50 mph.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, drink water, seek air conditioning, check on vulnerable neighbors, and never leave children or pets in vehicles.
