A September nor’easter hitting the East Coast caused delays and cancellations at Los Angeles International Airport as disruptions rippled through airline schedules nationwide.

By Saturday afternoon, more than 400 U.S. flights had been canceled and nearly 1,800 delayed. Boston Logan led U.S. airports with 253 cancellations. The FAA implemented ground delay programs at LaGuardia and JFK as strong winds, heavy rain, and coastal flooding swept the Northeast.

Delays can ripple west when aircraft and crews are held up in the Northeast, compounding problems throughout the day. Five major airlines issued travel waivers, and travelers were urged to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.

Organizers canceled the Global Citizen Festival at Central Park’s Great Lawn one day before Ms. Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean, Lenny Kravitz, and others were scheduled to perform.

Article Icon 1Curry Signs $116M Warriors Extension

Stephen Curry signed a two-year extension worth $116 million. It begins with the 2027-28 season and includes a player option for 2028-29.

Golden State drafted Curry in 2009, and the team announced the deal Friday night. If he exercises the option and plays in 2028-29, it would be his 20th NBA season, all with the Warriors.

Curry signed for roughly $20 million below the maximum. The discount adds roster flexibility and could leave Golden State with at least $60 million in projected cap space in summer 2027.

The extension follows his 2024 deal, a one-year, $62.6 million agreement covering the coming season. The 38-year-old averaged 26.6 points in 43 games last season, when injuries limited his playing time, and he has won four championships with Golden State.

Article Icon 1Native American Day Moves toward Paid Holiday

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed new legislation Friday that would make Native American Day a paid holiday for state workers once lawmakers fund the benefit.

California has recognized the fourth Friday of September as a legal holiday since 1998, but most state workers have had to use personal-holiday credit to take the day off. Assembly Bill 1841 also allows state bargaining units to negotiate the holiday as paid leave.

California courts have closed for Native American Day since 2022, when it replaced Columbus Day on the judicial calendar without adding another paid day off for court employees.

Newsom signed the measure as part of a broader tribal package that extended California’s formal apology for historical violence against Native Americans to the Legislature and courts and made the Governor’s Office of Tribal Affairs permanent.
